Old Vic New Voices US/UK Exchange 2009
Old Vic New Voices presents the US/UK Exchange, a celebration of transatlantic collaboration that introduces the very best emerging talent from London and New York, creating a thrilling international dialogue.
The US/UK Exchange 2009 featured a series of dynamic workshops and events from Mon 21st - Fri 25th September, including the rehearsed readings of two new plays selected from over thirty scripts submitted by writers in both the US and the UK. Following the selection of these scripts, a director from the UK and one from the US were selected to take part, and were paired with the writers to prepare for the exchange week - for which the US-based writer and director wold be flown to London to participate.
In addition to the rehearsed readings, events were arranged to allow for wider engagement with the project - Old Vic New Voices Club and Associate members were invited to panel discussion and workshop events with a particular focus on the differences and similarities between working in London and New York. Members were also invited to attend the readings themselves, along with a select group of invited industry representatives.
The US/UK Exchange is The Old Vic's annual celebration of transatlantic collaboration giving artists from our emerging talent programs in New York (the "New Voices Network") and London (the "New Voices Club") the chance to develop their careers through workshops, masterclasses and readings with the best British and American practitioners. For more information, see the Old Vic website.
The USUK Exchange is hosted in partnership with The Public Theater and is supported by generous gifts from The Laura Pels International Foundation, The Embassy of the United States London, The Noel Coward Foundation, Bernice Chitnis and other individual supporters of The Old Vic.
Time Warner is the lead sponsor of the New Voices Club.
The New Voices Club has also received generous contributions from The Marina Kleinwort Charitable Trust, The Mackintosh Foundation and The Idlewild Trust.
